Explore Murrieta is encouraging superbloom visitors to travel responsibly as the poppies are in full bloom. After Lake Elsinore city officials closed the Walker Canyon superbloom to all visitors, Explore Murrieta is urging visitors to get creative when viewing the poppies this year.
From lifelong nature lovers to social media mavens, thousands of people flock to Southern California each year to enjoy the polychromatic floral symphony that defines bloom season. With the last superbloom in 2019 luring an influx of visitors, it resulted in roadblocks, trampled flowers and a headache for locals. Explore Murrieta is getting involved by reminding travelers to “Keep it Super.”
Explore Murrieta’s “Keep it Super” campaign gives interested visitors a chance to educate themselves on sustainable tourism and offers alternative ways to enjoy the superbloom from their own home. The campaign encourages visitors to “Come with respect. Leave with wonder. Because it’s only super if we keep it that way.” In addition, supporters can become “Superbloom Superheros” by advocating for sustainable tourism and protecting the poppies.
For travelers looking to enjoy the superbloom and the wonder it offers, they can:
- View superbloom images and download the Superbloom Superhero Facebook Frame by visiting exploremurrieta.com/explore/outdoors/bloom-season.
- Enjoy their own bloom at home by planting poppy seeds
- View the blooms by visiting Skull Canyon, Chino Hills State Park, the Flower Fields at Carlsbad, and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
“We’re proud to offer alternatives to travelers wanting to view the superbloom,” President and CEO of Explore Murrieta Patrick Ellis said. “While we love hosting visitors in Murrieta, it is our duty as a travel destination to promote sustainable tourism and encourage travelers to leave the destination better than they found it. In other words, keeping it super.”
